Hydrocodone liquid cough/cold formulations have been removed from the market due to being unapproved for cough.  Some examples of liquid formulations containing hydrocodone are listed below.
  • Hydrocodone Bitartrate 1mg/mL/Homatropine Methylbromide 0.3mg/ml Oral Syrup
  • Hydrocodone Bitartrate 2.5 mg/5mL/Phenylephirne HCI 5 mg/5 ml/Chlorpheniramine Meleate 2 mg/5 mL Oral Solution (SF)
  • Hydrocodone Bitartrate 0.5 mg/mL/Phenylephrine HCI 1 mg/mL/Chlorpheniramine Maleate 0.4 mg/mL Oral Syrup
  • Hydrocodone Compound Liquid

This "fly-safe" formula was presented at a PCCA International Seminar and is often requested in the winter before flying.  A small amount is placed in the nostrils before the flight.

  • Tranilast 1%/Deoxy-D-Glucose (2) 0.19% in Shea Butter.

Anesthetic lollipop preparations may be beneficial to patients who have mono, strep throat or tonsillectomies.

  • Tetracaine HCI 0.5% Sorbitol LollipopTM Base

Lollipops for cough/cold

  • Dextramethorphan Hydrobromide 20 mg/Menthol 15 mg/Ascorbic Acid 500 mg Sorbitol LollipopTM Base
  • Menthol 0.1%/Eucalyptus 0.275% Sorbitol LollipopTM 

Ibuprofen Suppositories are often requested when a patient is unable to take Ibuprofen orally.  There is not a commercially available Ibuprofen suppository although Acetaminophen suppositories are available.

Dry lip formulations are often requested during the winter by patients who reside in drier parts of the country.

  • Lip Balm/AladermTM
  • Hydrocortisone 1% Lip Balm
  • Vitamin E Lip Balm 

Dry skin formulations are often requested during the winter by patients who reside in drier parts of the country

  • Moisturizing Cream #3
  • Urea 10%/Chamomile 5%/Oxybenzone 4%/Octyl Methoxycinnamate 7% Topical Cream
  • Sodium Hyaluronate 0.02%/Urea 10%/Sunscreen Topical Cream 

Xylitol nasal spray can be used by patients who have congestion, asthma or allergies

  • Xylitol 7.5%/Glycerin 2% Saline Nasal Spray 

Oral Xylitol is often requested for patients with chronic ear infections

  • Xylitol 2 Gm Sorbitol LillipopTM Base
  • Xylitol 40%, 60% and 66.7% Oral Syrup 

Stomach bugs often go around when people are cooped up indoors in the winter.  Some formulations that are requested to help with nauseau are listed below.

Ondansestron

  • Ondansetron 4 mg/0.1 mL Topical Lipoderm®
  • Ondansetron 8 mg Oral Effervescent
  • Ondansetron 4 mg Sorbitol LollipopTM Base

Promethazine - Reminder of Black Box Warning for children

  • Promethazine HCI 50mg/mL Topical Lipoderm® (stabilized)
  • Promethazine HCI 25mg/mL Topical Lipoderm® 

Older patients often complain of joint pain in the winter.  Oral pain medications sometimes cause stomach ailments.  Some of PCCA's most popular topical formulas containing NSAID's are listed below.

  • Ketoprofen 10% Topical Lipoderm® (Pentylene Glycol) * This is the formula used in PCCA's Lipderm® study.
  • Ketoprofen 10 Topical Lipoderm®
  • Ibuprofen 20% in Lipderm® Transdermal Gel
  • Piroxicam 5% in Lipoderm® Transdermal Gel
